Almost one third of workplace accidents are a result of unsafe manual handling practices and 80% of people will experience back pain at some time in their life.  The Patient Handling / Risk Assessment training programme is designed to provide the participants with the knowledge and skill they need to carry out a Manual / Patient  Handling Risk Assessment and to move clients and loads safely. This full day course is run in accordance with current legislation and guidelines.

Aim of training:
To provide participants with the skills and knowledge required to apply the correct techniques used in Moving and Handling tasks.

Objectives:
On completion of this course the participants will be able to:
Understand  Manual Handling Legislation
Understand how to protect yourself, your colleagues, your clients
Carry out a risk assessment
Describe, and apply to your work, the 11 principles of safe Moving &  Handling

Course content:
Manual Handling legislation – as it applies to the employer and employee
Anatomy of the  spine and muscular system & mechanisms of injury
Ergonomic risk assessment
Principles of safe patient /manual handling
Practice in safe handling of loads
Practice in safe handling of clients, including use of handling aids.
Demonstration of hoist

Method of training:
The course includes classroom presentation and physical lifting techniques.

Maximum number of participants: 12 people.
